Heavy snowfall in Volos

Everything was covered with very heavy snowfall and the snow height exceeded 20 cm even in the port and on the central beach of Volos, and in Pelion a fierce snowstorm rages from the night and more than 50 cm of snow in Chania, Zagora, the entire eastern Pelion, as well as all the northern suburbs of Volos.

A gradual decline in phenomena is expected from noon and from the north.

2) Especially for Attica, sleet or snow is expected, and in the most northern regions there will be temporary intensity of snowfall at times, so the phenomena will also appear in lower regions. From the second half of the day, a gradual subsidence of phenomena is expected.

3) In continental regions, severe frosts will be observed, which in the north-west will be total in some places (negative temperatures during the day).

4) Stormy north-northeast winds of force 7-8 on the Beaufort scale will blow in the Aegean until noon.

Problems in Central Greece due to snow

At the same time, low temperatures and frost create problems in areas of Central Greece.

In the mountain villages of the municipality of Dirfion Messapia on the island of Evia, there are problems with electricity, as the snow there has reached a meter.

Schools and general educational institutions in Evia and Phthiotis remain closed today, while schools also remain closed in parts of Boeotia and Phokis by decision of the local mayors.

The ban on the movement of heavy vehicles is valid on the national network, as well as on the roads of Boeotia and Evia.

According to the relevant statement of the General Regional Police Directorate of Central Greece, heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons are prohibited from driving on the following roads, with the exception of the national network:

  • On the national road New Schimatari-Chalkis from 0.000 to 11.000 km/h.
  • in P.E.O. Elefsina – Thebes, from the 30,000th to the 34,000th month in both traffic flows,
  • in E.O. Neohorakiou – Phyllis, from the 4th to the 24th month and

In Evia, the ban on the movement of heavy vehicles also applies on the roads.
