Prof. Ms. Evantia Galani is a graduate with honors and a doctorate from the Medical Faculty of the University of Athens. He completed his residency in pathology and then hematology-oncology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA. In 1998, she was appointed Director of the Department of Oncology at the Mayo Clinic. In 2008, she became Professor of Oncology at the Mayo Clinic and was subsequently awarded the Sandra J. Schulze Professorship. In 2009, she was elected Director of the Department of Molecular Medicine at the Mayo Clinic and became Program Manager for Cancer Gene Therapy and Viral Therapy and consultant to the US National Drug Agency (FDA). In 2013, he was elected president of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, a multicenter neurooncology group, an organization of 160 universities and more than 800 oncology clinics in the United States. In 2015, he became president of the US National Cancer Institute’s Glioblastoma Research Group. In 2019, she was elected Chancellor of the Mayo Clinic and in 2020 she was named a Distinguished Fellow of the Mayo Clinic.
The Rector of the National University of Kapodistrias in Athens, Prof. Meletios-Athanassios K. Dimopoulos, will address the laureate. The presentation of the work and personality of the laureate will be made by Ms. Eleni Goga, Professor of Pathology-Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, University of Athens. Then the texts of the Resolution of the Department, the Announcement and the Doctoral Diploma will be read by the President of the Faculty of Medicine of the School of Medical Sciences, Professor Gerasimos Siassos and the Dean of the School of Medical Sciences, Professor Emmanuel Pikulis. .
Professor Emeritus Evantia Galani’s speech is titled “Developing Viruses to Fight Cancer: A New Era of Immunovirotherapy” and deals with the fight against cancer using modified viruses, treatments pioneered by Professor Evantia Galani at the Mayo Clinic, USA.
