Oropedi Lasithi municipality brigades are on foot to keep the roads open. Heavy snow falls from time to time, with Mayor Yannis Stefanakis saying the snow in the villages has reached 20 cm.

“The municipality’s vehicles are working feverishly to avoid any road problems as long as possible,” said Mr. Stefanakis, who, however, stressed that citizens’ movements should be limited to those that are absolutely necessary.

Problems in Chania

Problems mainly in sections of the mountain road network, as well as in the operation of schools, were caused by bad weather, which also affects the Chania region.

At night, due to snowfall, sections of the roads to Omalo, Sfakia, Prassa, Sembrona, Petra Seli were closed, cars stood at points for the immediate restoration of traffic.

Schools of primary and secondary education (kindergartens, primary, secondary schools, Paleochora and EPAL high school) as well as kindergartens of the municipality of Cantanou Selinos are closed today.

In the municipality of Chania, Katochori Primary School (Kerameion) and Kindergarten Kerameion are closed.

The Municipality of Kissamos has announced that Elous Kindergarten and Primary School will remain closed, while the Platanias Municipality has announced that Skin Fourne Kindergarten and Primary School will be closed. In Sfakia, Askifu Kindergarten, Hora Sfakia High School and Lyceum are closed, while schools of all levels of education, as well as kindergartens in the municipality of Apokorono are closed.
