
EMY has released an updated Hazardous Weather Emergency Bulletin as bad weather barbara is right around the corner and Snow is also expected from Saturday evening.
In particular, snowfall is expected from tonight in the central and northern continental regions (mountains and semi-mountains). Then they will expand and influence it. Sunday (05.02.2023):
- From early morning the islands of the northern Aegean, Halkidiki and Thrace. Apparitions from the noon hours in Chalkidiki and Thrace will present a temporary recession.
- From the noon hours they will intensify and affect the Sporades, Thessaly (especially eastern Magnesia), Evia and eastern Sterea. Snowfall will also occur in the low-lying areas of Boeotia and Evia.
- From noon it will snow in the mountains, mainly in the northern Cyclades, as well as in the mountainous and semi-mountainous regions of Crete, where at times the snowfall will be heavy.
Especially for her Attica, in mountainous and semi-mountainous regions, snowfall will begin in the morning, and will intensify from noon, mainly in the north and east, as well as in areas with lower altitudes. Overnight snowfalls will show a temporary decline, and on Monday they will continue, but with less intensity.
Her Monday (06/02/2023), at times heavy snowfall will continue on the northern islands of the Aegean, Thrace, Sporades, Evia, Eastern Steria, Cyclades and Crete.
Her Tuesday (07/02/2023) snowfall is expected to continue in eastern Greece from Thessaly and further south (windy areas), as well as in the Cyclades and Crete, but with less intensity.
Low temperatures
From Sunday, a gradual decrease in temperature from north to south, about 8-10 degrees, is expected. This will lead to the predominance of severe frosts mainly in the continental regions, in places continuous in the central and northern regions (negative temperatures during the day).

Gale force 8 to 9 Beaufort winds will blow across the seas from Sunday at noon, gradually weakening from Sunday afternoon in the Ionian and from Tuesday in the Aegean.

Chania authorities are on high alert after meteorologists forecast worse weather since Sunday morning.
At noon, the Civil Protection Coordinating Authority met to assess meteorological data in the area and update the preparedness plan for the agencies and services involved.
The Deputy Governor of Chania, Nikos Kalogeris, stressed that the civil protection mechanism has been activated with the aim of immediately resolving any problems that arise.
Particular attention will be paid to ensuring that roads remain open and areas are not blocked, while citizens are asked to avoid unnecessary travel.
Decisions on Monday’s school operations will be made after assessing the conditions that will prevail from Sunday afternoon, when a gradual intensity of events is expected, Mr Kalogeri said.
