Autopsy of “K” at the Police Headquarters

Wednesday, January 25 great hospital of Athens started general call with 46 empty hospital beds out of 632 operating beds. More than half of the clinics were 100% occupied, and only one clinic, namely vascular surgery, had an vacancy rate of at least 25% as defined by the institutional framework.

The next morning, when the watch ended, 34 ranches were deployed in the hospital – auxiliary beds, as they are officially called – and 140 patients were placed in other clinics, in addition to those admitted, due to overcrowding.

This data comes from the Philolaos electronic platform, which operates at the “political headquarters”, as one might describe the EKAV-KEPY Operations Center, which “K” visited yesterday. All hospitals in the country are required to update this platform with their nursing activities before and after duty. It was created many years ago, but its data volume has dwindled over time.

About two weeks ago, the leadership of the Ministry of Health, with a letter from the Secretary General of the Health Service Giannis Kotsiopulos, “reminded” hospitals of their obligation to update the Philolaos system. This “reminder” was one of the two main actions of the ministry to combat the ranzo, a problem that has recently escalated. Another intervention concerns the “rehabilitation” of the wards of the overburdened Attikon, Evangelismos, Gennimatas and Laiko hospitals with small public hospitals and private clinics. Already now, the NIMC is helping in the overall vigilance of Evangelism. According to the Evangelization Commander Anastasios Grigoropoulosafter his last shift (Monday, January 30), for the first time the hospital did not have a ranch.

Plan

Such as said K. anesthesiologist, director of ESY and head of the EKAV-KEPY Operations Center Calliope Salteri, NIMTS is making an effort to treat about 27-30 patients who have been admitted to “evangelization” per shift and to receive about 40-50 cases that are delivered through EKAB and have been addressed to “evangelism”. According to the Minister of Health Thanos Pleuris, if not expected, from next week “Pammakaristos” will help the vigilance of “Laikos”. The private clinic in Peristeri will help the Attikon University Hospital and the private clinic in Athens G. Birth.”

In an effort to track on-call work in the National Health Service and optimize the on-call system, Philolaos is a multifunctional tool for Business center EKAV-KEPY. Describing Philolaos’ work, Ms Salteri says: “Hospitals must inform nurses before the start of the shift and after it (up to two hours later) of their movements. For the 1st sanitary region of Attica, in which the general duty of hospitals starts at 14:30, the information must be provided before 12:00. According to her, if the hospital is already stressed, the doctors of the operational headquarters, having a general picture of how the duty officers will move that day, will contact the administration, the duty coordinator and the head of the PVP and tell them to ask them to do everything possible to improve the situation. For example. do not delay discharges that could have been issued before the start of duty.

Overwhelmed medical facilities will be assisted by small public hospitals, as well as private clinics that accept patients.

At the same time, it is the job of the doctors at the EKAB-KEPY Operations Center to help – as far as the severity of the incidents allows – not burden already overburdened hospitals. For example. a patient with precordial pain can be hospitalized not in the Lykos department, but in Elpis, where the cardiology department is very good. “Always focus on the needs of the patient. I usually say that we are “patient advocates” and strive to provide the best conditions for patient hospitalization,” adds ESY director, general surgeon, resuscitator and head of the EKAV-KEPY Operations Center, Spyros Papanicolaou.

Communication of the operational headquarters, in which the doctors of the ABEC and EHS hospitals work, with the sanitary units and those responsible for their duty is carried out continuously: the deputy commanders of the hospitals, the doctors of the TEP and the polyclinics on duty ask to be sent to another place, because they are full, even in a very sharp tone – ” the call is being recorded” in some cases, the doctors of the operations center are forced to remind their colleagues who go beyond due to stress and fatigue.

Big pressure

Usually large hospitals such as “Attikon”, “Evangelism”, “Gennimatas”, “Laiko”.as well as other trauma hospitals such as Red Cross, Nice State and Triasian.they are under a lot of pressure in emergency rooms. The most traffic in the emergency departments is observed from the beginning at 14.30. until 22:00 Especially after 11 pm. CHP attendance is noticeably declining, but there are more incidents. At this time, pulmonological dispensaries have their own “honorary”. At Christmas, gastroenterologists and polyclinics treat multiple injuries.

Regarding the development of Philolaos, Mr. Papanikolaou notes that “the effort must now be provided in a timely manner by hospitals throughout the country, and not just in Attica, as has become known over the past ten days.” In addition, as Ms. Salteri mentioned, a pilot attempt is being made at Attikon to capture sister movement in real time, i.e. at the time of issuing a ticket for hospitalization to the patient, the platform will be automatically updated.
