I wake up early in the morning – ok, not so early… I usually sleep around 7 hours. I start my day by making a simple coffee – espresso or Greek in winter – while program three plays on the radio. After I have already taken the first sips, I will listen to “My only concern is my tongue” with Maria Hajara. This journey of language and words through time fascinates me. Then I’ll call two of my loved ones. I have breakfast, listen to music and talk a little. This is followed by approximately 1.5 hours of exercise. It gives me the necessary energy for the whole day, cheers up and keeps me in good shape. I enjoy the commute from home to the gym. I listen to the pulse of morning energy, say good morning to neighbors, friends, acquaintances, this is what I am especially pleased with. It fills me up when I meet my morning constants. Another day when everything is in place – and we continue!
At the moment, I am preparing for the production of Agamemnon by Yiannis Ritsos directed by Dimitris Georgalas, which we have been presenting at the Alma Theater since February 3rd. I read, I mark, I think, I systematize. In fact, over the past few weeks, I have had a period where the whole day was dedicated to the show. It is a work born out of a deep inner need to talk about the futility of efforts. These are the last words of the leader, who is aware of the absurdity of war and the futility of exorbitant ambitions. Death, wear and tear of the body, existential vacuum, erosion of values are the central thematic axes of the poem. The hero sums up life with disarming maturity, weighed down by memories of the war and lost people, led to the bitter realization that he did not live the truly important moments and wasted time trying to rise to the respect of others.
I found fellow travelers, people whom I appreciate and respect: Dimitris Georgalas, Marina Pantelaki, Dimitris Dasios, Nikos Tsimaras, Efstafia Dracontaidea, Christos Turlakis, George Stylianos, Michalis Mavromoustakos, Tsina Funtoulaki, Anastasios Sotiriou. I am proud of this creative enterprise of ours. His journey began with a live broadcast, during the quarantine period – December 2020, at the Lithography Theater in Patras. We continued the next season with a successful cycle of performances at the same place and now we are at the finish line before the presentation in Athens. But I kind of got off topic…
“One last look at the schedule for the next day. To organize my forgetfulness, I try to properly manage my time, sometimes I succeed, sometimes not … ”.
Afternoon snack. Some days I cook at home, some days I don’t, it depends on my daily routine and my appetite. I’m getting ready for the theatre. Second afternoon coffee with a delicious dessert at my new favorite place in the Kolonaki area. I love sweets, especially in the afternoon. It’s a pleasure. I keep going to the theater on foot – this is also a route that I like lately. Alma Theater – Second Stage. I’ll be alone in the dressing room before the final rehearsal – I’ll get used to the new roof of our theater. There are a few days left. Wanted: Honesty in performance. Tension, stress, creativity, discussions with partners. Final fixes to give the best we can. Everything is fine. After we finish our rehearsal, maybe a little walk, a relaxing glass of wine to relieve tension.
I come home, relax, read or watch a series on Netflix. Scroll through Instagram. How much time do we spend looking at the moments of people that don’t concern us… One last look at the next day’s schedule. To organize my forgetfulness, I try to properly manage my time, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t… Thoughts about the past day. Small account. Good night again tomorrow…
Once upon a time, I dare say, everything was done only in order to one day remember this, or rather, to discover its immortal futility. Good-natured hour – and I’m glad about it”
