How “My, My, My Delilah” Became “Bye, Bye, Bye, Delilah”

Many songs can be selected for their repertoire by choirs who will sing between rugby matches in Prince’s Stadium in Cardiff Wales, but not “Dalila” from Tom Jones.

The track may have already been removed from 2015 from the playlists of the stadium, however, it is now forbidden to sing in choirs inside it, which confirms the leadership of the principality, as they realized its problematic nature.

For the lyrics of Delilah tell a story about the murder of the woman of the same name by her husband, when he finds out that she is flirting with another man. The husband then asks Delilah to forgive him because of her dead body.

“Dalila” has been popular with fans of the Welsh rugby union team for many years, who may continue to sing it in the stadium as it was not banned.

The decision came after resignation of the Chairman of the Welsh Rugby Union, following accusations of sexism, misogyny and racism within the union.

In particular, a spokesman for the stadium said: “The Welsh Rugby Union condemns violence of any kind. We have sought expert advice in the past on the issue of banning the song, and with all due respect, we understand that this is problematic and frustrating for some fans due to its subject matter.”

However, he also sang in the past Tom Jones “Dalila” before the rugby match:

According to the BBC.
