Mick Schumacher, reserve at McLaren and Mercedes
Ferrari’s bitter rival during Michael Schumacher’s golden era at the Italian team, McLaren announced on Wednesday that it could turn to Meek as part of a deal with engine supplier Mercedes, Reuters writes.
The 23-year-old German joined Mercedes as back-up to Lewis Hamilton (seven-time world champion) and George Russell after he lost his seat at Haas at the end of last season.
According to McLaren’s announcement, Andrea Stella, Michael Schumacher’s former performance engineer at Ferrari, is the new team principal.
Mick Schumacher has yet to finish on the podium, scoring 12 points in his Formula 1 career.
He made his Grand Prix debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix (from 2021) and the last Grand Prix he competed in was the one held in Abu Dhabi last season.
Of the 22 drivers competing in Formula 1 2022, Mick Schumacher finished 16th with 12 points.
McLaren will be able to drive @SchumacherMick as a reserve driver during the 2023 F1 season as part of our agreement with Mercedes. Welcome to the family, Mick. uD83DuDC4AuD83EuDDE1 pic.twitter.com/DNiJ5s99rQ
