Argentina won the World Cup in Qatar after a fantastic final against France (3-3, 4-2 dld) but Lionel Messi admitted there was one thing that upset him after he managed to get the only major trophy that wasn’t there in the collection.
Lionel Messi would like Diego Maradona to see the Argentine champions
In an interview with a radio station in Buenos Aires, Messi said that he would like to receive the main trophy from the hands of the legendary Diego Maradona, who died in November 2020 at the age of 60.
“I would be happy for Diego to give me the Cup so that he can at least see Argentina as champions. She loved the chosen one so much. From there, from above, he gave me strength, as well as many people who love me.
We won the World Cup after so much suffering and lost finals. God saved it for me.
The World Cup called me and said, “Come and get me, now you can touch me.” I saw her shining in that beautiful stadium (Lusail Stadium) and I didn’t hesitate (when I decided to kiss her).
Now there is nothing to gain. I conquered everything with the national team, with FC Barcelona, as well as individually” – Lionel Messi for Urbana Play FM, quoted by Agerpres.
Know:
- During his career, Messi was awarded the Ballon d’Or seven times. At club level, the Argentine has four Champions Leagues and numerous titles won with FC Barcelona, as well as the French championship with PSG.
- Lionel lost one World Cup final (at the 2014 World Cup hosted by Brazil) and three Copa America finals (a competition he won in 2021).
