NASA: asteroid mission ‘costs’ 75,000 times the global economy

OUR NASA is preparing a billion-dollar mission to the strange asteroid “Psyche”, which in the space economy will be “worth” 75,000 times more than the current world economy.

Psyche is a unique metallic asteroid orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter. What makes the asteroid rare is its (apparently) exposed iron-nickel core, which is one of the building blocks of our solar system.

On Earth, the corresponding materials are not available under the crust and mantle.

According to Forbes magazine, if space technology existed to extract valuable content, it would be worth $10,000,000,000 in today’s prices.

NASA, a little belatedly, is preparing a mission with the goal, of course, not of mining, but of understanding the unexplored structural element of the planets – iron cores.

This is a promising exploration of a different kind of world, as it is not made of rocks and ice, but of metal.

The spacecraft’s journey will last 3.5 years, and once it reaches the asteroid, it will orbit it for 21 months, mapping and studying the properties of a strange and potentially valuable new world.
