Frosts hit the northern and central mainland early Sunday morning when the mercury dropped to -8°C.
According to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr, the lowest minimum temperatures were recorded in Seli (-8.3), Agios Pavlos in Imathia (-5.9), Variko in Florina (-4.6) , Claisure. Kastoria (-4.5) and Kitrini Limni Kozani (-3.9 points).
At the same time, it is noted that the latest satellite data for snow cover in Greece on January 26 show that approx. 12% land area part of the country is covered in snow, meaning that snow cover levels approached the 2004–2022 average in the last week of January.
The latest forecast data from the weather service of the National Observatory of Athens show that the snow cover will remain at the same or even somewhat higher levels, at least until the first week of February.
Low temperatures will contribute to local snowfalls in the mountains of the mainland and Crete.
