Iran repelled a drone attack on a military facility in Ispahan, Iran’s defense ministry announced overnight from Saturday to Sunday, according to the official Iranian news agency Irna, a facility whose activities are unknown but has facilities in the nuclear research area, AFP reported.

“Drones carried out an unsuccessful attack on one of the equipment complexes of the Ministry of Defense,” the agency reported.

The attack did not result in casualties, but only “minor damage to the roof” of the building, the ministry said.

Tehran is announcing the attack in a very tense context of the row in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini in September, ongoing disagreements over the nuclear file and accusations by some countries that Tehran is supplying drones to the Russian army during Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The ministry says that one of the drones was destroyed by the installation’s air defense system, and the other two exploded.

“The attack, which took place on Saturday, around 11:30 p.m. (10:00 p.m. Romanian time), did not cause disruptions in the operation of the complex,” the agency said.

A video posted on social media, the authenticity of which the AFP could not verify, showed a loud explosion at the installation and intervention vehicles then heading to the area.

The deputy governor of Ispahan province, Mohammad Reza Jan-Nesari, said on television that the attack “did not result in casualties” and that an investigation had been launched to determine the cause.
