“Our response will be strong, quick and precise,” the Israeli prime minister told the press before an emergency meeting of the small security cabinet. “We are not looking for escalation, but we are not ready for any scenario,” he added.

On Friday night, a 21-year-old Palestinian shot dead seven people outside a synagogue in East Jerusalem during Sabbath prayers before being killed after a chase.

The attack came a day after an Israeli army raid in Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank, that killed nine Palestinians.

A 13-year-old Palestinian wounded two people, a father and his son, in East Jerusalem on Saturday morning.

After the attack on Friday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised “immediate measures” without elaborating and urged Israelis not to take justice into their own hands, but to leave it to the army and police.

The Israeli army said on Saturday that it will strengthen its structure with a battalion in the West Bank.
