Monica Bellucci visited our consulate in New York

The glamorous presence crossed the threshold of the Greek Consulate General in New York on Wednesday. It was Monica Bellucci who traveled to the US to sing the touching monologue “Maria Callas: Letters and Memoirs” presented for one evening just last Friday at the Broadway BeaconTheater. The Italian was invited by our current Consul General Dino Constantinou, who took office a few months ago. Together with his wife Mirsini Feliu, he hosted a reception in honor of the actress, as well as the director of the play, Tom Wolfe, who accompanied her. Presentable, simple, unpretentious, like any real star, she emphasized that “what touched me most about Maria Callas was her personality, which balanced between a diva and a woman with a simple heart. He died of grief and a broken heart.” The Consul referred to the fact that a beautiful actress was invited to play the role of the legendary soprano, who was born in a Greek family in New York on December 2, 2023. Dinos Constantinou noted that this year is the year of Callas and there will be other actions. at the consulate, which will be dedicated to the anniversary linking Greece with the United States. On March 17, there will be a concert in collaboration with Stefanos Koronaios, director of the Graciatello Theatre, in memory of the diva.

The point, however, is that the intention of our Consul General is to enhance the radiance of Greece with the help of advanced literature and art. Thus, a series of events with this targeting is already planned. On February 9, Greek Language Day, a meeting will be held on the topic “The Present and Future of the Greek Language in the United States.” The speaker will be Alexandros Nekhamas, member of the Academy of Athens and Professor of Humanities, Philosophy and Comparative Literature at Princeton University with a rich writing and scientific work.
