Brazilian pair Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos won the mixed doubles at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, on Friday.

In the grand final, Stefanis and Matos beat India’s Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna 7-6(2), 6-2.

The match lasted one hour and 28 minutes.

Know:

  • This is the first time in history that two Brazilians have won a Grand Slam mixed doubles event.
  • It was the last Grand Slam tournament in the career of Sania Mirza, who has six major titles to her credit: three in women’s doubles (Wimbledon 2015, US Open 2015, Australian Open 2016) and three in mixed (Australian Open 2009, Roland Garros 2012 and US Open 2014). The Indian will end his career after the “WTA 1000” tournament in Dubai (February 19-25).
