For centuries, Inuit communities in the Canadian Arctic have foraged their food by catching narwhals and seals.

They hunted, trapped and fished long before the Hudson’s Bay Company opened its first commercial “base” in the Arctic in 1921. A century later, locals say they no longer find whales “where they should be” and blame the noise of the ships.
