Rapid succeeded in canceling the “Association Fotbal Club Rapid Bucharest” trademark

According to a statement released by the club on social media, the current Super League team has secured the annulment of the trademark owned by AFC Rapid at the Court of Appeal in Bucharest.

At the same time, the court ruled that the UFC Rapid and Giuleștina emblems purchased from the bankrupt company remain valid after Horia Manoliu demanded their cancellation.

In another lawsuit over the current logo used by Rapid, a decision will be announced in the coming days.

In June 2018, the club, now chaired by Dan Shuku and Victor Angelescu, purchased the Rapid brand from the liquidator Sierra Quadrant for €406,000 plus VAT.

“Today, the Court of Appeal of Bucharest ruled on the first of two disputes concerning the Rapid brands. In this first file, FC Rapid 1923 requested the cancellation of the word mark Asociația Fotbal Club Rapid Bucharest (registered in 2017), while the opposite party asked the court to cancel several trademarks consisting of the emblems previously used by our club, UFC Rapid and Julestina .

FC Rapid 1923’s appeal was fully accepted, the Bucharest Court of Appeal annulled the Asociația Fotbal Club Rapid București brand and preserved the validity of the other brands in the portfolio acquired from the bankrupt Rapid company.

The second trademark registration file, consisting of our current club logo, will be decided in the coming days.

We will come back with details after it is resolved,” FC Rapid 1923 announced.
