A Swiss parliamentary body proposed on Tuesday to lift the ban on the re-export of ammunition produced by it from another country to Ukraine, Reuters reports.
The recommendation was adopted by 14 votes to 11 and requires further parliamentary approval.
“The majority of the committee believes that Switzerland should contribute to European security, which includes providing more aid to Ukraine,” the Swiss parliamentary committee said in a press release on Tuesday.
Earlier, Switzerland rejected calls from Germany to allow it to re-export Swiss-made ammunition to Ukraine, saying that such actions violate its neutrality. But Bern has been under increasing pressure to review its policies, particularly at the World Economic Forum it hosted in Davos last week.
The committee added in a statement that its proposals did not violate Switzerland’s neutrality rules, as the weapons would pass through another country and not directly into the conflict zone.
