In particular, the customs officers of the anti-smuggling department of the 3rd import customs of Piraeus, after analyzing the risks, selected for inspection a container from Ecuador with the final destination of Piraeus and the declared content of bananas, due to the increased likelihood of drug trafficking.
X-ray examination of the container revealed an indication of the possible presence of organic material inside the refrigerator, within the wall of the roof insulation material.
This was followed by a physical check by inspectors from the 3rd Customs Department using a drug detection dog and police from the Anti-Narcotics Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate. During the inspection, 106 packages containing narcotic substances with a total weight of about one hundred and nineteen thousand five hundred grams (119,500 grams) were identified and confiscated by the 3rd Piraeus import customs office.
The value of the seized drugs is 5,019,000 euros. The investigation continues, the preliminary investigation is conducted by the Greek police.
