American actor and director Sean Penn will premiere a documentary he shot in Kyiv about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Berlin Film Festival next month, according to organizers, Al Jazeera reports.
The 73rd annual Berlinale, as the February 16-26 event is called, will draw attention to the war, which will mark the year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Penn’s “Superpower”, called “a chronicle of a film project that reality forced to do something less controlled, but more significant”, will be the most outstanding among the Ukrainian films presented at the festival.
Penn was in Kyiv filming a documentary in late February 2022 when the Russian invasion began.
The two-time Oscar winner was photographed at a government press conference in Kyiv, and a video posted on the Ukrainian president’s Instagram showed a meeting with Zelenskyi.
Last September, Russia imposed “permanent” sanctions against actors Ben Stiller and Sean Penn.
