After appropriate laboratory tests were carried out at the Office of the Veterinary Center of Athens (the national reference laboratory for the disease) for suspected African swine fever, the presence of the virus was confirmed in a dead female wild boar at the Municipal Office of Petrizio. Subdivision of the Municipality of Sintica Serres, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Rural Development.

By order of the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Simos Kedikoglu, all competent veterinary services of the ministry, local veterinary authorities of the state of emergency. Measures include:

1) Activation of the National Center for Disease Control and the National African Swine Fever Task Force.
2) Activation of the local disease control center to control the disease in the emergency. Serron.
3) Delimitation of the contaminated area.
4) Activities at pig farms located within the demarcated contaminated area.
5) Intensive passive surveillance of wild boars and domestic pigs within a demarcated infested area.

Recall that the national group of experts on African swine fever was established in October 2022 by decision of the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Simos Kedikoglu as part of preventive actions to combat such incidents.

Finally, it states that the African swine fever virus is not transmitted to humans and is of no public health concern.
