The pair of Monika Niculescu / Victoria Golubic (Romania / Switzerland) was eliminated in the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open Championship. They lost their match against the backup team of Storm Hunter (Australia) and Elise Mertens (Belgium).

The score was 6-2, 6-2 in favor of Hunter and Mertens after a match that lasted 63 minutes.

For the trip to Melbourne, Niculescu and Golubic will receive a joint check for A$67,250 and 240 WTA points each in the doubles ranking.

In the women’s doubles at the Australian Open, another representative of Romania appeared – Gabriela Ruse (paired with Marta Kostiuk). They will play against the double format of Hunter and Mertens (favourites 4).
