Tens of thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday in the central Plaza Cibeles in Madrid against the government of the progressive coalition of Pedro Sánchez, at the call of various conservative associations and with the support of right and far-right parties (PP, Ciudadanos and Vox). , reports EFE.

Demonstrators, many carrying Spanish flags, came with placards with messages accusing the prime minister of being a “liar”.

According to government figures, 31,000 people took part in the protest, which is several light years short of the number provided by the organizers, who claimed 500,000 participants.

Among the demonstrators was far-right Vox leader Santiago Abascal, who said people were protesting against “the worst government in history, which trampled on the Constitution and imposes totalitarian ideologies and which wants to divide society.”

For their part, the leaders of the second echelon of the People’s Party (PP, conservatives), who also participated in the protests, advocated the removal of the socialist Pedro Sánchez from power and a review of the policies adopted by him.

This is not the first time Spain’s three right-wing and far-right parties have protested against the Sanchez government, which has been in power since June 2018.

For his part, Pedro Sánchez, who attended the rally in Valladolid (centre) on Saturday, said those demonstrating in Madrid, whom he described as “nostalgic”, wanted “a united Spain and, for that reason, exclusively” . (Source: Agerpres)
