In regards to influenza in particular, he said that “the epidemiological data shows that we have passed the peak and are on a downward trend. Of course we have to be careful because it fluctuates a lot and the descent is not continuous.”
“With regard to the coronavirus pandemic,” he noted, “we are in the process of leveling the incidence.”
He also added that “we will not see an equalization in terms of influenza, the descent will begin, and if it has already begun, it will end by the end of February. That is earlier than we expected.
Mr. Maiorkinis also mentioned the benefits of vaccination, saying that flu and corona vaccines have been tested and we have not seen side effects, so citizens should be vaccinated.
As for the mutations, he seemed reassuring, emphasizing that “We haven’t seen anything with the Centaur mutation. We don’t have enough data on the Kraken, but in countries where it has predominated, the healthcare system did not seem to be under pressure.”
