Actress Brooke Shields said she was raped early in her career in Hollywood in the documentary “Beauty: Brooke Shields,” which was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States, AFP reports.
The former model kept the identity of her attacker secret, but said she met a man she knew shortly after graduating from college and thought they were discussing casting her for a new movie. The man took her back to the hotel, saying he wanted to call a taxi for her from her room. Instead, he went to the bathroom, then came out naked and raped her, news.ro said.
“It was like a fight… I was afraid that I would be suffocated or something like that,” the actress admits in the documentary. “I didn’t really fight. I didn’t do that. I was completely petrified. I thought my no should have been enough. And I just thought: stay alive and leave.
After the attack, Brooke Shields recalls calling her friend, security guard Gavin de Becker, who told her, “It’s rape,” to which she replied, “I’m not ready to believe it.” Until now, the artist has never publicly spoken about the aggression against her.
The revelation, which echoes the #MeToo wave, is one of many emotional moments in the film, which will be released on the Hulu streaming platform in two parts.
The first part is devoted to the intense sexualization that Brooke Shields underwent at a very young age, especially during a nude photo shoot at the age of 10, and after her appearance at the age of 11 in the film “Pretty”, in which she played the role of a prostitute girl.
The actress, now 57, said it was the “right time in (her) life” to star in the documentary.
Brooke Shields began her career in film and television at the age of 11 months. Known for such films as The Blue Lagoon, Pretty Woman, and Endless Love, she starred in Jane the Virgin (CW) and Suddenly Susan (NBC).
