Greta Thunberg of Sweden was among environmental activists detained on Tuesday during a protest against the demolition of the German village of Lucerat to allow the expansion of a coal mine, German police said.
Greta was detained during a protest outside the Garzweiler 2 mine, about 9 kilometers from Luetzerath, Reuters and Agerpres reported. She joined this protest on Friday.
A witness told Reuters he saw her alone in a large German police van on Tuesday.
“We will use force to take you to an identity check, so please cooperate!” a German police officer told the group of activists, according to video from the protest site.

“Greta Thunberg was part of a group of activists who approached the security fence. However, she was stopped and taken out by us, together with this group, outside the immediate danger zone in order to establish her identity,” said the spokesman for the police of the German city of Aachen, who specified that one of the activists of the protestors jumped over the fence into the mine.
It is not yet known what will happen to Greta and the group with which she was detained, and whether the activist who jumped into the mine was injured.
Holding hands, the three policemen led Greta some distance from the edge of the mine where she had been sitting with her group before escorting them back to the police vans.
