According to experts of the RA National Meteorological Administration, 2022 was the third warmest year in the history of meteorological measurements in Romania. The five warmest years from 1900 to 2022 are 2019, 2020, 2022, 2015, and 2007.

The average annual temperature was 11.77°C, and the temperature deviation was 1.55°C compared to the average for the period 1981-2010.

The maximum temperature recorded in 2022 was +41.7 C in Calafat on July 23. There were many dry months and December was unusually warm compared to normal.

The period 1991-2020, which is considered the current reference climate period according to the recommendations of the World Meteorological Organization, records an increase in the level of the long-term average annual air temperature in Romania by 0.5 C compared to the previous period 1981-1981 in 2010, the ANM said.

At the decadal level, the largest increases in average air temperature occur in the last 2 decades (2001-2010 and 2011-2020), and the last 20 years often record daily, monthly, seasonal and annual temperature records, each of which broke previous records.
