Roberto Bautista Agut, the fourth seed at the Adelaide International 2 (ATP 250 category), was defeated in the final by a surprise Sunwoo Kwon.

Entering the main draw as a lucky underdog, Kwon (84 ATP) won the match after two hours and 43 minutes of play against Bautista Agut (26 ATP), 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4).

Sunwoo, who was knocked out in the final round of qualifying by Tomas Machak (115 ATP), got revenge on the Czech in the first round before defeating Pablo Carreño Busta (15 ATP, favorite 2), Mikael Imer (77 ATP) and Jack Draper (40 ATP ).

Know:

  • In this way, the South Korean wrote his second ATP title on his resume after the title in Nur-Sultan in 2021. Sunwoo became the first player from his country to win more than one ATP title.
  • Kwon became the first lucky underdog to win an ATP title since Marco Cecchinato did it in 2018.
  • With the win in Adelaide, Kwon will move up 32 places in the ATP rankings, and on Monday he will be ranked 52 (so far the best of his career).
