The Archbishop of America will participate tomorrow in the first meeting of the joint commission to review the current Constitution of the American Archdiocese, which aims to more effectively and better meet the needs of the Greek Orthodox faithful in the United States of America as the Archdiocese enters its second century of life.

As noted in the related announcement, the American Archdiocese, as a province of the Ecumenical See of Constantinople, has received five constitutions in its hundred-year history to date. For the revision process has been carried out with the utmost care, care, diligence, and foresight to meet the pastoral needs of the Church in America for every period of time.

In fact, last year, in the year of the celebration of the centenary of the Archdiocese of America, and in connection with the July meeting of the laity in New York, the views of the faithful were expressed at a meeting on the Constitution, in which all representatives, clergy and laity participated. All agreed that a new vision must be formed in order to sustain the continued spiritual growth and well-being of the Archdiocese and its flock. It is for this purpose that the Ecumenical Patriarchate has created a joint committee to revise the current Constitution in the context of constant concern for meeting the spiritual requirements of the time, as well as the practical needs of an ever-changing society.
