
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced that he will supply Ukraine with Zenit anti-aircraft systems and the necessary ammunition for them, AFP and Ukrainian Pravda report.
“A few days before the start of the war, we provided military aid to Ukraine, especially in the form of (portable SAMs) Stinger. Today we brought good news for Ukraine: we are transferring air defense systems and certain anti-missile equipment. – aviation installations that should help in this fight” , – said Nauseda.
Earlier, in his speech, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked his Lithuanian colleague “for the decision to transfer anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine, which will strengthen the protection of our energy system, especially against attacks by Iranian drones.”
Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion, Lithuania has already provided Ukraine with military aid worth 283 million euros. Support includes anti-aircraft missile systems, light infantry weapons, anti-tank weapons, mortars, machine guns, ammunition, armored personnel carriers and howitzers, as well as non-lethal support such as drones, personal protective equipment, night vision devices.
Nauseda’s statement came at a time when Poland announced that it was ready to supply Ukraine with a batch of Leopard 2 tanks requested by Kyiv as part of an international coalition.
“A company of Leopard tanks (14 armored vehicles, ed.) will be sent there as part of the coalition being built,” Andrzej Duda said during a joint press conference with Ukrainian and Lithuanian colleagues in Lviv in western Ukraine.
