Ioana Ciocan, CEO of Art Safari and Commissioner of Romania at the Venice Biennale:
“After 2022 with two major editions that whetted the public’s appetite for art, in 2023 we are organizing 3 editions of 3 months each! We are becoming a museum of temporary exhibitions of prestigious Romanian and international art. From February 10, a journey through Europe from west to east awaits you at the Palace of Dacia-Romania (Bucharest City Museum). From sunny Spain, we bring great impressionist artists, then we go to France, another friendly country of Romania, from where we bring modern art, awarded with the great prize of Marcel Duchamp. The final destination of our trip: Romania. We are celebrating the 140th anniversary of the birth of Ion Teodorescu-Sion, an outstanding personality of Romanian interwar art. We also don’t forget about young artists who have a voice: Young Blood is back, by popular demand, with a new edition curated by Mihai Zgonda, of course. Attention, this is only the program of the first release! 🙂 Therefore, we invite you to visit us all year round to enjoy the full Art Safari program.”
Art Safari Exhibitions – 11th edition (February 10 – May 14, 2023)
“Ion Teodorescu Sion. Life story”curator Dr. Elena Olariou
Although he lived only 57 years, we have before us a very successful artist in the interwar period, an artist who had 14 solo exhibitions, participated in almost all the official salons in Bucharest and exhibited alongside the great Romanian masters of the era. Ion Teodorescu-Sion is an artist who created a sensation with his paintings, veritable symphonies dedicated to the definition of “especially Romanian”, being a staunch Unionist and a war hero of the First World War.
“Masters of Spanish painting. The 19th century and the birth of impressionism”curator Dr. Helena Alonso
The exhibition is built around the famous Spanish impressionist Joaquin Sorolla – the “Master of Light”, in the context of the international celebration of his centenary, and Maria Fortuny – a versatile artist who had a huge international success.
“Palace of Memory. Focus on the French art scene with the Marcel Duchamp Award”curated by Daria de Beauvais, assisted by Dr. Lisa Colin
The Marcel Duchamp Prize is one of the world’s most prestigious prizes dedicated to artists, organized by the Association for the International Diffusion of French Art (ADIAF). Mircea Cantor is the only Romanian artist who received the Marcel Duchamp Prize. The artists of the “Palace of Memory” open a field of possibilities and evoke stories that are not remembered.
“Young blood 2.0. What’s new in art?”curator Mihai Zgondoyu
The exhibition “Young Blood 2.0” should be viewed (over)openly and understood accordingly, because it is the art of the moment. Modern art needs a new “update” which you will find in Art Safari.
