Nick Cave usually reports some news about his career in his newsletter/blog “The Red Hand Files”.
In a recent post, the Australian singer/songwriter, songwriter, poet and actor wrote that he wants to create a new album with Bad Seeds, which will be released in 2203. “This is both good and bad news. Good news, because who wouldn’t want to hear our band’s new album? Bad news, because we’ll have to make a record. I started the process at 9 am on New Year’s Day. A week has passed, and I wrote something, but it’s not very good, but it could well be. There is a kind of melancholy, long and predictable,” he says.
It’s been four years since Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds released an album. Ghosteen came out in 2019 and was followed by B-Sides & Rarities Part II in 2021.
Cave has since made several solo collaborations, such as with Warren Ellis.
In 2015, Cave’s 15-year-old son Arthur died after falling off a cliff in England. The songwriter recently released his memoir Faith, Hope and Carnage, based on 40 hours of interviews with journalist Sean O’Hagan, in which he talks about grief and how art helps him after a boy’s sudden death. In May 2022, Cave also “lost” his eldest son, Jethro Lazenby.
Last year, Cave presented a new series of ceramic sculptures with Brad Pitt at the Sarah Hilden Art Museum in Finland. The animated songwriter also starred in Before They Were Gods and appeared in the 2021 film Louis Wayne’s Electric Life.
