A soup sachet contains up to 10 E and up to 12.8 grams of salt, which is 156% more than the recommended daily allowance of the World Health Organization, notes InfoCons, which conducted a study based on the labels of soup products to the envelope from the Romanian market.

In total, InfoCons analyzed 29 products and, after centralizing and analyzing the information on the labels, came to the following conclusions:

Ingredients contained in the composition:

  • 89.66% contain noodles/pasta with a percentage of 44.9% to 93% of the product composition
  • 44.83% contain dehydrated vegetables with a percentage from 2.2% to 28.5% of the product composition

Other ingredients contained in the composition:

  • flavorings were detected in 62.07% of the analyzed products, without mentioning whether they were natural flavorings or other types of flavorings
  • natural flavors were found in 24.14% of the analyzed products
  • spices were detected in 44.83% of the analyzed products, without mention of which spices were added

Food supplements from soup to envelope:

  • 93.10% of products contain E (food additives)

The number of food additives ranges from 0 to 10:

  • 3.45% of products contain 10 E
  • 6.90% of products contain 9 E
  • 10.34% of products have 8 E in their composition
  • 3.45% of products contain 7 E
  • 10.34% of products have 6 E in their composition
  • 37.93% of products have 5 E in their composition
  • 6.90% of products contain 4 E
  • 10.34% of products have 2 E in their composition
  • 3.45% of products contain 1 food additive
  • 6.90% of products do not contain Es

In terms of products containing common food additives, the situation is as follows:

  • 66.67% of the studied products contained sodium monoglutamate (E621);
  • 66.67% of the studied products contained potassium carbonates (E501);
  • 55.55% of the studied products contained sodium carbonates (E500);
  • 51.85% of the studied products contained disodium guanylate (E627);
  • 51.85% of the studied products contained disodium inosinate (E631);

93.10% of the studied products had information on the nutritional value of 100 grams of the product indicated on the label.

  • Energy value from 19 kcal to 459 kcal.
  • The amount of fat ranges from <0.5 g to 18.9 g.
  • The amount of saturated fatty acids ranges from <0.1 to 8.6 g.
  • Carbohydrates range from 6g to 63g, while sugars range from <0.5 to 15.1g.
  • 38% of the analyzed products do not contain fiber.
  • The amount of protein ranges from 7 g to 15.2 g for the studied products
  • The amount of salt per 100 grams of the product ranged from 7 to 12.8 g.
