Naomi Osaka (former world leader and winner of four Grand Slam tournaments in her career) will not participate in the Australian Open 2023. This was announced on Sunday by the organizers of the tournament in Melbourne.
Naomi Osaka will not play at the 2023 Australian Open
Winner of majors in Melbourne in 2019 and 2021, Osaka will not compete in this year’s Grand Slam.
Naomi is currently ranked 42nd in the world and has not played in a world tournament since late September, when she withdrew from the tournament in Tokyo ahead of her match against Beatrice Haddad Maia.
At the time, Osaka blamed an abdominal muscle injury.
Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska will take advantage of the elimination of the Japanese woman. Dayana, 22, who is ranked 101 in the world, will be admitted directly into the main draw at the 2023 Australian Open.
The first Grand Slam tournament of this year will be held from January 16 to 29. Ashley Barty (now retired from sports) and Rafael Nadal became the champions of the title.
