Two climate activists spray-painted the front gate of French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne’s office on Wednesday to protest what the group Derniere Renovation called “climate crimes” by the French state, Reuters reported.
Video of the protest, obtained by Reuters, showed police detaining two activists.
This happened when President Emmanuel Macron was chairing a cabinet meeting. Activists were dressed in T-shirts with the slogan “Who is to blame?”.

Derniere Renovation said in a statement that the state has failed to meet its obligations to help fight climate change.
The French Supreme Court fined three times for pollution
Last year, France’s highest administrative court ordered the state to pay two fines of 10 million euros each for failing to improve air quality in major cities.
The fines were in addition to another €10m fine imposed for the same reason in 2021.
In 2017, the same court ordered the government to reduce levels of nitrogen dioxide and fine particles in several regions of the country to meet European standards.
