The backbone of the future Russian Navy

For the Russian Navy, the commissioning of the Generalissimus Suvorov ship is an important step forward, especially at a time when the image of the Russian Navy and the Russian Armed Forces as a whole is seriously undermined by the ongoing Ukrainian conflict. Built at the Sevmash Shipyard in Severodvinsk, this is the second submarine of the Borey-A project after the Prince Oleg and the first and most important unit of this class, the Prince Volodymyr.

Compared to the Bora class, this new generation of submarines has been upgraded in several ways, with improved quietness, maneuverability and deep-sea navigation capabilities, as previously reported by Naval News, as well as an improved weapons control system.

These ships, armed with Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles, constitute, in Moscow’s opinion, the backbone of the future Russian navy.

Guaranteeing the country’s security “for decades to come”

And the fact that Generalissimo Suvorov will be assigned to the Pacific Fleet indicates that it is important for the Kremlin to strengthen the eastern front as well, and not just the hottest one on the Baltic or Mediterranean and Black seas.

Along with the entry into service of these new fleet units, Putin also announced the launch of the new Emperor Alexander III nuclear submarine. Putin emphasized that, in addition to the “Emperor Alexander III”, “four more such submarines will be built as part of the current state rearmament program.”

The plan, which, as confirmed by the President of the Russian Federation, will serve as a guarantee of the country’s security “for decades to come.” (Full text on Inside Over)
