Between December 26 and January 1, there were more than 3,600 new cases of COVID and 34 deaths due to SARS-CoV-2 infection, and 872 new cases in the past week were re-infected patients who tested positive during the period. more than 90 days after the first infection, News.ro reports.

“In the period from December 26, 2022 to January 1, 2023, 3,605 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) were registered. 872 of the new cases in the last week are re-infected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the first infection,” the Ministry of Health said.

To date, 3,312,085 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been registered in Romania. The incidence recorded after 14 days is 0.25.

In contrast to new confirmed cases, 233 people were confirmed positive after retesting patients who had already tested positive.

In specialized medical institutions, the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is currently 881. Also, 110 people were hospitalized in ATI. Of the 110 patients admitted to the HTP, 97 are unvaccinated.

Out of the total number of those hospitalized at the moment, 76 are minors, all of them are hospitalized in the department and 0 in the GTP.

To date, 67,408 people diagnosed with Sars-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the period from 26.12.2022 (10:00) to 01.01.2023 (10:00) INSP reported 34 deaths (24 men and 10 women).

Deaths were registered: 1 in the age category 30-39 years, 2 in the age category 40-49 years, 2 in the age category 50-59 years, 7 in the age category 60-69 years, 10 in the 70s. 79 in the age category and 12 in the age category over 80 years.

All the deceased had accompanying diseases, among the deceased – 12 vaccinated.

From December 26, 2022 to January 1, 2023, 8,989 RT-PCR tests and 51,893 rapid antigen tests were conducted. To date, 13,685,693 RT-PCR tests and 12,396,321 rapid antigen tests have been processed at the national level.
