The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) reported that nationally between 19 and 25 December 2022, the total number of cases of acute respiratory infections such as clinical influenza, IACRS and pneumonia was 140,688, compared to 101,059 cases, registered for the previous week. . Thus, the average number of cases for the same period in the five seasons before the COVID-19 pandemic (2015-2019) was 64,049 acute respiratory infections, which means that the number registered now represents an increase of 119.7%.

According to the INSP, there were 2,685 cases of clinical influenza in the country, compared with 1,644 cases reported in the week preceding the period from 19 to 25 December 2022, and with 79 cases reported in S 51/2021.

Influenza activity developed with high intensity, with local distribution in the counties of Brasov, Buzău, Cluj, Prahova, Sibiu, Timișoara, Ilfov, the municipality of Bucharest and sporadic cases in some counties.

Also, 16 cases of severe acute respiratory infections (SARS) were recorded, which is eight less than last week and 15 more than in the same period last season.

The INSP also states that there have been no confirmed deaths from the flu virus.

At the same time, 94 confirmed cases of influenza (18 with AH3 virus, 28 with AH1 virus, 46 with non-subtype influenza A virus and 2 with influenza B virus) were registered for the week of 12/19/2022 – 12/25/2022.

Since the beginning of the season, 208 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza have been registered: 112 – unsubtyped influenza A virus; 45 cases with AH3 influenza virus; 46 cases with AH1 influenza virus; five cases of influenza B virus.

According to the source, until December 25, 2022, 1,417,836 people from risk groups, distributed by the Ministry of Health, were vaccinated against influenza.
