General government debt (public debt) stood at 651.508 billion lei in October 2022, compared to 646.073 billion lei in September and 577.521 billion lei at the end of last year, according to data published by the Ministry of Finance.

As a percentage of GDP, public debt rose to 48% compared to 47.6% the previous month.

In October, medium-term and long-term debt amounted to 623.967 billion lei, and short-term debt – 27.54 billion lei.

The largest part of this debt, namely 535.01 billion lei, was made up of government bonds. Loans amounted to 103.29 billion lei.

The debt in euros amounted to 301.069 billion lei equivalent, in national currency – 288.986 billion lei, and in US dollars – 60.219 billion lei equivalent.

The central government debt amounted to 634.012 billion lei at the end of October, of which 606.494 billion lei are in the medium and long term. Most of the debt of the central administration was contracted in euros (296.8 billion lei equivalent) and in lei (275.762 billion lei).

The debt of the local public administration amounts to 17.496 billion lei, of which 17.473 billion lei is medium-term and long-term.

The internal debt of the state administration amounted to 321.837 billion lei (23.7% of GDP) in October, of which 309.236 billion lei is the debt of the central administration and 12.601 billion lei is the debt of the local administration.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the external debt of the state administration amounted to 329.67 billion lei (24.3% of GDP), of which 329.67 billion lei was the external debt of the central state administration and 4.895 billion lei was the external debt of the local state administration. .
