China and Russia should “strengthen their strategic coordination” and “instill more stability in the world,” Chinese President Xi Jinping said Friday during a video conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, China’s official Xinhua news agency reported, citing CNN.

China is “ready to work” with Russia to “oppose hegemony and power politics”, unilateralism, protectionism and “intimidation”, as well as safeguard international sovereignty, security, equality and justice, Xi Jinping said, according to Chinese media reports.

For his part, according to the same source, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that China and Russia have maintained a “solid dynamic of development” of relations in the conditions of “the current complex and difficult international situation.”

Putin also noted that the two countries have made progress in cooperation in various fields, including energy, agriculture, transport, infrastructure, sports and cultural exchanges.

“The stability, maturity and stability of ties between Russia and China are further improving,” Putin said, according to Chinese state media.
