Hyundai has announced that it will sell only electric cars in Norway from January 2023, leaving the hybrid car market forever, reports Il Giornale.
Currently, such engines are the only ones in the Ioniq family: the Ioniq 5 crossover and the new Ioniq 6 coupe sedan, as well as the Kona Electric, which is expected to debut in the new Hyundai Kona in 2023.
This is another step towards electrification, following the decision in early 2020 to sell only hybrid or plug-in electric vehicles in the Scandinavian country.
Just three years later, the circle is narrowing even further for a country that has long welcomed zero-emission mobility with open arms, even as it appears to be on the verge of cutting tax breaks for those who buy a 100% electric car.
Thomas Rosvold, Managing Director of Hyundai Norway, said: “We have a lot of confidence in our products and with the new Hyundai Ioniq 6 we are ready to offer the Norwegian market a range of 100% electric vehicles, looking ahead to the models that will be introduced in the coming years.”
