Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, who became famous for her punk style and clothes for the members of the Sex Pistols, died on Thursday at the age of 81, according to Reuters.
“Vivienne Westwood passed away today, peacefully and surrounded by her family, in Clapham, south London. The world needs people like Vivienne to make a difference for the better,” her fashion house said on Twitter.
Climate change, environmental pollution and her support for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange inspired the protest t-shirts or banners worn by her models on the catwalk.
In 1989, she dressed up as then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for a magazine cover. In 2015, she protested against shale gas development by driving a white tank near the home of then British Prime Minister David Cameron.
i love vivien #westwood.

Vivienne Isabel Swire was born on April 8, 1941 in the village of Tintwistle in Derbyshire, the eldest of three children.
Her working-class parents encouraged her to take up the craft, which she pursued with enthusiasm. But they were deeply puzzled by their daughter’s passion for reading, once paying her to destroy her library card, News.ro reported.
