President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an address on Wednesday evening, called on Ukrainians to show solidarity and compassion for their peers, showing that a “difficult” year is ahead and that is the only way to achieve victory.
The President of Ukraine noted that Wednesday is the day of “summing up this year and planning for the next.”
“I held a meeting with officials from international relations regarding events and plans for the month of January. I met with the Minister of Defense of France, who arrived in Ukraine. We discussed cooperation throughout the year, the recovery of our country, and another step in strengthening our air defenses. (…) I met with government officials and heads of parliamentary committees. We discussed the solutions that are being prepared. Also, today we sent an annual message to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament – no) regarding the external and internal situation of Ukraine, about how we all – all Ukrainians – changed the world this year and what we will do next year”, details. Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
He said he wanted to add an “apolitical” message to everything that was done and said on Wednesday, and made an emotional appeal to his compatriots for solidarity and support, stressing that the Ukrainian people must show that they have not lost their humanity, even if he has survived “terrible months” and even if there is a “difficult year” ahead.
“No matter what happens and what you think, support each other. Definitely (…). We will reach victory. And we really have to do it together,” Zelenskyy said.
“Please take the time to say kind words to your loved ones. Even if these are not people close to you, but only other Ukrainians. Please find a reason and a moment to thank for your work, to praise certain efforts, for your care. And if a person is in a difficult situation, in such a difficult time, he is left alone and for some reason does not have relatives, please ask if he needs help. Or just help her without even asking.
If you know that a person is expecting a son or daughter from the war, be attentive: say hello, listen, help.
Hug your family more often. Tell your friends more often how much you appreciate them. Support your colleagues more often. Thank your parents more often. Have fun with children more often. Do not forget to call when your relatives are waiting for you, even just to ask how are you? Don’t forget to write to friends and acquaintances at least once in a while – you don’t need to lose touch now. And don’t forget to say thank you when they helped you,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi said.
He emphasized that solidarity and moral support are important elements that are part of Ukraine’s strength to defend itself and win the war started by Russia.
“(…) Our words, which can warm those around us when things are too cold, and our mutual concern when the circumstances are difficult – all this is also part of our common protection. We have not lost our humanity, even though we have been through terrible months. And we will not lose him, even if we have a difficult year ahead of us. We will reach victory. And we really have to do it together. Take care of Ukraine, appreciate each other and do everything to help our fighters! Every day is for victory,” urged the President of Ukraine.
