The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, was severely criticized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, according to comments published on Tuesday on the ministry’s website in Kyiv.
Prime Minister Orbán’s statements “demonstrate a pathological contempt for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people who are fighting against Russian aggression,” the Ukrainian ministry said, accusing the Hungarian leader of “political short-sightedness,” the DPA and Agerpres agencies report.
These comments were a response to Viktor Orbán’s statement that the war could end if the US stopped supplying Ukraine with weapons.
Orbán worked in such a way to defeat Ukraine, even if it would increase the danger of Russian aggression against Hungary, the Ukrainian ministry said. “The Hungarian leader must ask himself whether he wants peace,” the quoted source said.
In a previous interview, Viktor Orbán said: “Ukraine can only continue fighting as long as the United States supports them with money and weapons. If Americans want peace, there will be peace.”
Relations between the two neighboring states are strained. Orban has repeatedly tried to block the EU’s support for Ukraine and the sanctions imposed on Russia, DPA notes.
