The general opposition of the German population to the supply of such tanks to Ukraine is the main conclusion of the YouGov poll on a representative sample of 2,075 people, published on Sunday.

If almost half of the respondents do not agree, then the other half is divided between 33% supporters of the idea and 22% undecided.

This division of the population is also reflected in the tripartite coalition that governs the country: the Social Democrats, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, refuse to deliver these tanks, but the Greens in particular and the Liberals, although to a lesser extent, are favorable to the specific actions of President Zelensky to meet the demand.

The survey shows that the biggest split is observed among the Social Democrats (SPD): 41% oppose and 40% support a positive response to this request.

At the other end of the spectrum are the Greens, half of whose voters support sending tanks, and 25% are against. In the camp of the Liberal Party (VDP) against – 42%, for – 33%.

Finally, opposition is more evident among supporters of far-right parties such as the Alternative for Germany (AfD), where 76% say they are against and only 13% are in favor.
