Mountain rescuers managed to see them and two of the four Ukrainians who tried to cross the border with Romania through the Maramures mountains. Two Ukrainians have broken legs, the third one complains of not feeling well, Dan Benga, director of communal services of the Salvamont Maramures district, said on Sunday evening. Two SMURD helicopters sent by the head of the DSU, Raed Arafat, arrived to help the rescuers.
“There are two with fractures of the lower limbs and in a state of hypothermia. From the latest information, it seems that one of the other two, who is fine, has started to feel bad,” Dan Benga said, according to Agerpres.
On Sunday afternoon, two SMURD helicopters involved in the rescue operation flew one of the rescue teams up the mountain.
“The weather is unfavorable, dense fog, visibility less than 3 meters, minus temperature and wind. We will come back depending on what happens on the pitch.
10 minutes ago, mountain rescuers from the field managed to see them and see two of the four Ukrainians. The distance to them is a maximum of 500 meters, only that there are slopes with rocks on both sides of the route, which practically makes it impossible for the mountain rescuers to move safely to the Ukrainians,” Salvamont writes, News.ro reports.
In the evening from Saturday to Sunday, mountain rescuers and border police managed to get two citizens of Ukraine out of a group of six people who were trying to reach Romania on foot by crossing the Maramures mountains.
Search operations were resumed on Sunday morning, but low visibility seriously hampered the search.
