The criminal organization involved in the theft of motorcycles was liquidated by the Office for the Investigation of Crimes Against Property of the Attica Security Directorate. In particular, two Greeks aged 30 and 25 and a 19-year-old foreigner were arrested as part of a police operation on Wednesday (21.12) in the Acharna region for forming and joining a criminal organization, cases of theft of vehicles through complicity, manufacturing and possession of explosives and incendiary materials and violations of laws on weapons and aliens.
During the preliminary investigation, 5 thefts of two-wheeled vehicles were uncovered, while the investigation continues to establish the full extent of their criminal activities. Gang members have been arrested for similar crimes in the past, according to ELAS.
As part of the motorcycle theft investigation, a special police team was set up as part of the motorcycle theft investigation, which found the accused on Wednesday morning in the Acharni area loading two stolen motorcycles onto a trailer, police said. They were stopped by the police and taken to the headquarters of the Subdivision for the Investigation of Crimes against Life and Property, where they were arrested.
As it turned out as a result of the investigation, the defendants, at least since April 2021, formed and joined an operationally structured gang with a planned action plan and clear roles among its members.
In particular, a 30-year-old man, as the owner of a motorcycle repair company, received motorcycles with material damage from customers in order to repair them, and the rest of the gang members undertook to seize motorcycles of the same model and brand. . Then the stolen cars, on which they replaced their license plates, were taken to a store or home to a 30-year-old for dismantling. Parts from stolen motorcycles were used in repaired cars, which were then transferred to the owners.
In addition, the defendants forged the chassis and engine numbers of the stolen vehicles and sold them as legitimate vehicles for illegal financial gain.
After searches of the gang members’ homes, store and their property, a total of 4 motorcycles, 17 engines and a vehicle control unit, a number of tools for falsifying chassis and engine numbers, a hand grenade, some explosives, detonating ropes were found and seized, as well as detonators, 6-shot air revolver, battle rifle ammo and magazine, scope and bayonet, naval flare, number of mobile phones and SIM cards, number of car keys, and notepad with handwritten notes on amounts of money and vehicle. parts.
The arrested were taken to the District Attorney of Athens.
