A major Russian shipyard specializing in the construction of non-nuclear submarines announced on Saturday that its CEO had died suddenly after 11 years in the business, but did not provide details, Reuters reported.
Admiralty Shipyards, based in the western port of St. Petersburg, announced the death of Oleksandr Buzakov. Has been in the position since August 2012.
His main achievement, he said, was maintaining and strengthening the shipyard’s portfolio of orders for modern non-nuclear submarines, surface ships and deep-sea vehicles.
The TASS news agency reported that the shipyard is building modernized Kilo-class diesel submarines capable of launching Kalibr cruise missiles.
In April, Moscow said it used a diesel-powered submarine in the Black Sea to strike Ukrainian military targets from the Caliber.
The shipyard said Buzakov graduated in 1980 and had more than 40 years of experience, meaning he was around 60 when he died. Saint Petersburg is the hometown of President Vladimir Putin.
