Former Brazilian footballer Edson Arantes to Nascimento Pele “continues to fight”, one of his daughters has announced after doctors said his health was deteriorating.

“We are still here in the fight and in the faith. One more night together,” wrote Kelly Nascimento on social media, along with an emotional photo of her hugging her father on his hospital bed in Sao Paulo, Marca reports.

It is the first photo since doctors announced on Wednesday that the disease had progressed, causing heart and kidney failure.

Following the doctors’ recommendations, Pele’s daughters decided to spend Christmas in the hospital, where he has been since November 29.

Pele was hospitalized for a change in treatment for cancer, which he has been suffering from since 2021. A few days later, doctors treated respiratory diseases after infection with Covid-19.
