Poland abandons coach Czeslaw Mikhnevich
The 52-year-old coach took charge of Poland’s bench in January 2022 and managed to lead the team out of the groups of the 2022 World Cup for the first time after a 36-year break, writes The Sun.
Robert Lewandowski’s side stopped in the round of 16 when they were clearly beaten 3-1 by France.
The president of the FA of Poland Cezary Kulesha said that the contract with Michniewicz expires at the end of the year and will not be extended.
“On behalf of the board of the Polish Federation, I would like to thank Czeslaw Michniewicz for his work over the past 11 months. As you know, he led the team in a difficult moment and managed to qualify for the World Cup and get out of the groups. He deserves thanks for that,” Kulesha said.
Michniewicz joins a select list of coaches who did not continue after the World Cup in Qatar, alongside Luis Enrique, Tite, Fernando Santos or Louis van Gaal.
